First addition 1960-1964: This addition to the Paul B. Kannowski Papers consists of material related to the purpose and operation of Academic Year Institutes. Following this is correspondence regarding symposiums in various areas of science and the National Science Foundation. Next, there is general information on the Summer Science Institute (SSI). This includes schedules, general announcements, class lists, personnel information, meeting agendas and minutes, field trips, and applicant ratings. Furthermore, the addition consists of information on a program for a master of science teaching degree, National Science Foundation Members, two newspaper clippings, and Kannowski's vitae. Second addition 1997-1998 : This addition to the Paul B. Kannowski Papers consists of two journal articles written by Kannowski and published in 1997 and 1998.

Paul Bruno Kannowski was born on August 11, 1927 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was the son of Max and Frances Kannowski. He attended Grand Forks Central High School, participating in the junior class play, the golf team, and was student chair of the war bond and stamp drive. He graduated in 1944. Continuing his education, he enrolled at the University of North Dakota, and was involved in the religious student organization Canterbury Club and was a member of Sigma Chi.
